FAQ's
Nature School FAQ's
What age group is the nature preschool for?
We are thrilled to welcome preschoolers aged 3 to 5 to our classes! Our mixed-age group creates a wonderful learning environment where children can work together and learn from one another.
Who are the teachers this year?
Miss Jen teaches all classes. Miss Christine teaches Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Grandma Carol teaches Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Noah teaches Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. Zach teaches Tuesday and Thursday.
Can I reserve more than one class?
Yes, We offer several additional classes besides our regular outdoor preschool classes.
1. Jump Start Classes: This is a 30-minute class from 12:00-12:30 PM (either at the end of AM class or at the beginning of PM class) In this class, we reinforce the learning happening in class through games, art, books, and projects.
2. Friday Adventure: We will host classes in various open spaces, parks, and trailheads around our area, providing a dynamic and ever-changing learning environment for the children, and helping them to connect with their community and natural surroundings. Open to all students ages 3-8. Parents and siblings are welcome to come and adventure with us.
What are the benefits of choosing a nature preschool?
Children in nature preschool are better prepared for formal learning environments with improved attention spans and learning readiness. It stimulates curiosity, creativity, problem-solving skills, and a sense of wonder. It also promotes physical health, social awareness, teamwork, and emotional resilience through outdoor play and hands-on learning in natural settings.
How often will we be outside during class?
For most of the year, classes will be held entirely outdoors. In colder weather, we'll start inside and then move outside. We'll only stay inside all day if there are extreme conditions like high winds, lightning, or temperatures below 25 degrees.
What should my child wear to preschool?
A wonderful Norwegian says, “There is no bad weather, only bad clothes!”.
There are so many benefits to spending time outdoors so for most of the year, we will be outside for the entire class period. In the colder months, we will find a balance between spending the first part of class inside and then heading outside to play.
We will spend the whole day inside when the weather doesn't cooperate (high winds, lightning, or below 25). Send your preschooler dressed for the weather every day.Dress your child according to the weather every day.
For winter:
Base Layer: Merino wool or synthetic fibers (not cotton) to wick away moisture.
Middle Layer: Insulating materials like fleece, down, or wool.
Outer Layer: Waterproof to protect from wind, rain, and snow.
Hands: Waterproof mittens (at least 2 pairs in the gear bag) and thinner gloves, all labeled.
Feet: Waterproof, insulated boots with non-cotton socks (preferably wool).
Additional: Waterproof pants, hats, and neck gaiters.
What about clothing for warmer months?
During warmer months, children should wear shoes that can get wet and clothes that can get dirty, as they will likely come home dirty. Rain boots with warm socks are recommended for fall and spring.
What is the daily flow like at the preschool?
Circle Time: Welcome everyone, talk about the plans for the day, assign jobs, discuss the weather, sharing bag, graph the question of the day, discuss the letter of the week, and sing.
Open-Ended Learning Centers: Exploration, free play, and discovery.
Snack Time: While listening to books.
Small groups: Activities and art projects around the letter of the week, theme, and working on our Emotions Journals
Clean-Up: Reviewing the day's activities before going home.
What about snacks?
We will have a snack each day. Families rotate bringing a snack bucket home monthly. Healthy snacks like crackers, popcorn, string cheese, fruits, and vegetables are preferred. Please ensure your child has breakfast/lunch before school. We are a peanut and nut-free preschool. Inform us of any allergies.
How do drop-off and pick-up work?
Line up on the west side of the street heading south for drop-off. A teacher will help your child out of the car. For pick-up, have your visor name tag visible, and we'll assist your child into your car. Please buckle them in their car seat after pulling forward.
What special events or programs does the preschool offer?
Halloween Program: At the beginning of class, usually around October 29th & 30th.
Art Night: The first Monday in May to showcase children's artwork.
Field Trips: Parents drive their children to various locations. Dates are on the Year at a Glance calendar.
Adventure Friday: Classes meet at different trailheads and parks for exploration.
How are birthdays celebrated at preschool?
Each child gets to celebrate their birthday on the preschool day closest to their birthday, or near their half-birthday for summer babies. Treats are optional for the class.
What is the Sharing Bag?
It's an opportunity for children to speak in front of peers, increasing vocabulary and self-confidence. Each child gets multiple chances throughout the year, indicated by a brightly colored band. The preschooler gets to bring 1-2 items from home to show their friends. They give clues about each item and let their friends guess.
What are the tuition details?
Tuition is due by the 1st of each month, with a $20 late fee if unpaid by the 5th. Payment methods include Zelle, Venmo, cash, checks made to Jen Pulley, or automatic bill pay. No refunds for missed days.
